Changes to European Union ISPM 15 Standard

Please be advised that the Importing Country Phytosanitary Requirements (ICPR) for the European Union have changed for ISPM 15. From the 1st of July 2009 the EU will require that all imported wood packaging material is free of bark.

Cartage Fuel Levy Increase

Due to escalating fuel prices worldwide, the Cartage Fuel Levy will increase to 12.5% effective 1st March 2008. We will continue to monitor fuel prices and adjust the levy where required.

New Auckland Container Cranes

Axis Intermodal's three brand new ZPMC1,250 tonne ship-to-shore container cranes have arrived.
 
Reaching 35 stories high or 40 metres 'above' the Auckland Harbour Bridge, the crane transport vessel entered the port and berthed at Axis Fergusson on the morning of Friday 15th of December.

Import Air Cargo Manifests - New Customs Regulations

Overseas agents are reminded that we are required to lodge all inbound air freight manifests electronically with Australian Customs prior to flight arrival. Fines of up to A$1300 may be imposed, however, you can expect mandatory fines of A$40.00 per MAWB for late lodgment. Any fines imposed due to non-receipt of pre-alerts will charged on to the sending agent.

General Rate Increases

Import Sea Freight from Asia

Effective September 15, 2006 all import sea freight rates from Asia will increase as a result of shipping lines applying a General Rate Increase (GRI). We, therefore, have no choice but to increase our freight rates on these trades by the following levels:

  • US$350.00 / 20' Container
  • US$700.00 / 20' Container
  • US$12.00 / 1000 kgs or m3 (LCL)

As usual, we will continue to negotiate with other carriers to minimize the effects of this GRI on you. Please feel free to contact us if you have any queries at all.

Import Air Freight from Hong Kong

We have received notice from our Hong Kong agent that the airlines have a applied a rate increase of HK$1.00/kg on all air freight shipped from Hong Kong to Sydney / Melbourne. Unfortunately with effect from 16/9/06 our rates will be amended to reflect this increase.

Kalgin Joins Forces For Samoan Tsunami Relief

On Saturday the 17th of October Kalgin held a BBQ at our warehouse in Brisbane in support of victims of the recent tsunami in Samoa.
 
In conjunction with Reef Shipping we organised two containers of relief supplies to go to Apia, one container from Brisbane and the other from Sydney. These containers were sent free of charge, containing donations of clothing, non-perishable foodstuffs, bottled water, and bedding and blankets.
 
Kalgin Brisbane would like to thank the businesses and Samoan Community members who supported this effort! Together we managed to fill a 20' container with much needed relief supplies.

New Additions to Our Transport Fleet

Two new equipment additions have boosted Kalgin's ability to pickup & deliver cargo in Sydney & Brisbane. In Sydney we have added an Iveco EuroCargo 16 tonne truck. Equipped with a 2.5 tonne tail-lifter, full curtains & air suspension it allows us to provide the ultimate in versatile & secure transport for our clients.

In Brisbane we have added a Mazda 5 tonne truck complete with curtain sides & tail lifter. Given that this is one of our fastest growing branches this is a welcome boost to our resources there & significantly improves our ability to perform on time deliveries for loose cargo.

With the addition of new services to Papua New Guinea in March this year, Kalgin is now positioned as a market leader in consolidation services from Australia to the Pacific Islands. Our wide range of destinations in this region includes Tonga, Western Samoa, American Samoa, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Wallis & Futuna & Tarawa. 2007 will see some exciting developments in new markets in addition to some IT service enhancements for our customers.

Kalgin Sydney Gets 77G Customs Bond Approval

Australian Customs Service - www.customs.gov.auWe are proud to confirm that Kalgin Sydney's Matraville warehouse is now a licensed 77G Customs Bond. This allows us to store import cargo whilst still under Australian Customs control. Many of our clients are already benefiting from this through faster deliver times (particularly with import air freight).

Noumea - New Weekly Service

Kalgin are proud to announce an industry first. Our LCL consolidation services from Sydney and Brisbane to Noumea are now going weekly. Using MSC's new weekly direct vessel from Sydney, "MSC Caledonien", Kalgin can get your cargo from Sydney to Noumea in 4 days with a weekly departure. From Brisbane the "MSC Caledonien" departs every 2 weeks, so using a combination of this vessel & the "Caledonie Express" we are currently able to achieve a weekly service from Brisbane. Transit time is 2-4 days depending on which vessel is used. Please refer to our Pacific Island Schedules for dates. Our Melbourne office will continue to operate its direct service every 2 weeks on the "Caledonie Express".
