Kalgin International Freight Services was established in Sydney in April 1989 under the principle "Attend to detail, inform & communicate at the highest level, and tailor services to meet specific needs."

Our focus at conception was to offer a personalised, unrivaled export sea freight service to the Australian and New Zealand markets with a specific point of difference - to follow all shipments to their end destination and provide shipment status upon arrival at destination. This was done at a time when the internet was not established and our competitors were not interested in shipments once they had departed.

So began our drive to clearly differentiate ourselves from our competitors.

Evolution & Expansion

In August 1993 we were successful in obtaining our IATA License (Int'l Air Transport Association). This enabled us to deal directly with all major airlines without an intermediary. We then began to offer a comprehensive international air freight service to compliment our sea freight services, handling all types of cargo.

Due to the rapid growth of our export consolidation services,1998 saw Kalgin move away from office-only operations to operating its own warehouse facility attached to its office in Sydney. This meant we were able to control every aspect of container vanning & devanning without relying on third parties.

In 2001 Kalgin New Zealand was established in Auckland under a Joint Venture arrangement. We have since evolved into our own fully owned Auckland branch office offering Kiwi importers & exporters the benefits & unique service to / from all global markets.

In 2002 we opened the first of our Australian branch offices in Melbourne. This empowered us to effectively deal with all cargo to / from this major Australian city without the need to sub-contract to a third party. To compliment the expansion of our Australian office network a Brisbane office was then established in 2005. Both branches operate on site warehouses.

Kalgin's global network of overseas agents started with the help of a major multi-national forwarder with offices in most major international cities. While we no longer rely on this network, we owe much of our agency network growth to referrals given as a result of this strategic alliance.

Pacific Islands Expertise

In 1992 Kalgin was successful in winning a tender to handle all sea & air freight traffic for a large group in New Caledonia. This involved consolidating sea & air freight shipments in Australia, New Zealand, Asia & Europe for shipment to four companies in Noumea. We were able to develop the New Caledonian market, and Kalgin was quickly established as the market leader in logistics services between Australia & New Caledonia - a position we maintain today.

In 1996 Kalgin put to advantage its success in New Caledonia to expand into French Polynesia. We established a scheduled twice monthly sea freight consolidation service & weekly air freight consolidation service between Sydney & Papeete.

Once firmly established in the French Pacific Territories, Kalgin embarked on an aggressive strategy to become the leader in sea & air freight logistics services from Australia & New Zealand to the Pacific Region. We strategically selected new markets, gained local knowledge first hand, and formed solid relationships.

Our strategy has been successful; Kalgin is fast emerging as the new market leader, and today we operate sea & air freight consolidation & FCL services from our office & warehouse facilities in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne & Auckland to the entire Pacific.
